Decks can be beautiful all on their own, but you can decorate them to add some of your own style and taste to make your deck all your own. Decor for your deck can get expensive, but there are ways to decorate on a budget. See below for some deck decorating tips that won't put a hurting on your pocketbook.
1. Create Outdoor Lighting With Wine Bottles
You can make your very own wine bottle lights using a recycled wine bottle, wick, outdoor torch fuel, Teflon tape and a 1/2 x 3/8 inch copper coupling with cap. All of these items can be found at any hardware store.
- Rinse out the wine bottle thoroughly first. Then wrap the 1/2 inch end of the coupling with the Teflon tape. Insert the wick into the coupling, leaving about 1/4 inch sticking out of the coupling end. Use a funnel to fill the bottle about halfway with the torch fuel. Place the wick and the coupling in the bottle, and screw the coupling into the bottle top tightly. Allow the wick time to absorb the fuel, and then light the wick. Use the copper cap to put out your wick when you're finished using your torch.
2. Add A Gazebo To Your Deck
Maybe your dream deck has several levels with multiple seating areas, planters and a separate area enclosed with screens and a charming door. If this isn't exactly in your budget, add a gazebo to your deck instead. A lot of gazebos come with drapes and even netting to enclose the structure. Add some cozy string lighting or candles to give the gazebo some ambiance.
3. Paint An Outdoor "Area Rug"
Rather than purchasing an outdoor area rug that can cost a pretty penny, try painting your deck instead. All you need is some outdoor paint, painters tape, or stencils if you want to incorporate a design, and some outdoor paint sealer. Paint the "area rug" to match with your outdoor decor.
4. Add Railing Planters
You can add a splash of color to your deck by simply adding some deck railing planters. The planters themselves are fairly inexpensive, and using some fast growing flowers, like petunias, will give you a color explosion in no time at all.
Decorating your deck doesn't have to cost a lot of money. You can find decor to match with your style, and stay within your budget, by shopping around, and adding some do-it-yourself elements.
